Welcome!

I’m Khylie M. Small, and I am a writer. I write because God has used stories to channel goodness, truth, and beauty into my life, and I want my written words to do the same for others.

My biggest passion is writing fantasy novels. Rather than removing us from what is real, I believe fantasy done well can plunge us into the depths of reality. Because stories are art, and art is beautiful, and we fall in love with beautiful things, I believe portraying truth in a beautiful way can form our hearts to rejoice in what is good, and live it.

When I don’t have time to weave a 200k fantasy novel, I love experimenting with short stories that hopefully leave you pondering something good and true long after you finish them. While I usually write fantasy, I love experimenting with sci-fi, contemporary, or just about anything when it comes to my shorter works.

I’ve also found that sometimes a good old article or essay is the best way to muse about truth, and so on my website and across other platforms, you’ll find me writing about theology, philosophy, and the art of fiction writing.

The biggest influences for my storytelling come from my favorite authors (J.R.R. Tolkien, Jane Austen, Brandon Sanderson, and Michael O’Brien), the beauty of nature that I love to explore, the richness of my Catholic faith, and the tradition of western thought found in the ‘Great Books.’

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope to see you around in the comments’ section.

Pax Christi,

Khylie M. Small
